Teresa White – Executive Producer/Owner

Teresa White is a multimedia storyteller, educator and filmmaker who loves to uplift meaningful stories. She has years of experience in both newspaper and broadcast news. She is an alum of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism graduate broadcast program. In between her studies, she reported for the Chicago Sun-Times and State Journal-Register in Springfield, Illinois.

After graduation, her teaching journey started at Howe School of Excellence. Teresa created the campus’ first journalism club for middle school youth. This initiated almost a decade in which Teresa equipped young people with skills to report stories that mattered most to them and their communities. She would eventually work with high school students as the editor of The Dime Child Foundation’s DCX Magazine.

She then reignited her art for visual storytelling as the Program Coordinator and producer of FSM News, one of the many youth-led broadcast programs at Free Spirit Media. Teresa helped participants create countless newscasts for Chicago’s public access channel, CAN TV. The youth also produced several in-depth projects with PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs. Many of the crew members’ videos, including topics such as under resourced schools, LGBT discrimination and racial profiling, are award-winning and showcased in various festivals. Promoted to program manager years later, she supported five FSM programs across the city.

Teresa is now the creator and executive producer of YellowBrick Films. She grew up in the Englewood neighborhood and graduated from Chicago Vocational Career Academy. So as a Chicago South Side native, she recognized the many mis- and underreported stories in various communities. She created YellowBrick Films in hopes to enlighten audiences with a more thorough perspective.

Teresa is also a 2017 Ithaca College S’Park Media Mentor recipient and a 2018 Kartemquin Diverse Voices in Docs fellow.
